Our Curriculum

Iowa Early Learning Standards

At Ankeny Christian Child Care and Preschool, we begin our full curriculum on each child’s first day. Our curriculum is guided by the Iowa Early Learning Standards, developed by the Iowa Department of Education and grounded in research, theory, and best practice.

These standards outline the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and motivations children need for success in school and beyond. The seven developmental areas include:

  • Physical well‑being and motor development

  • Approaches toward learning

  • Social and emotional development

  • Communication, language, and literacy

  • Mathematics and science

  • Creative arts

  • Social studies

Classroom Learning & Planning

Our teaching staff designs activities that support these learning goals while honoring the appropriate ages and stages of each group. Every classroom follows a yearly continuum that guides children through the standards in a developmentally meaningful way.

Assessments & Family Communication

Children are assessed both informally and formally throughout their time at Ankeny Christian. This helps us provide differentiated instruction that meets each child’s individual needs.

Formal assessments take place in the fall and spring, and teachers meet with parents during these times to review assessment results and portfolio work. These conversations help families stay informed and engaged in their child’s learning journey.

Christian Church

Faith Integration at Ankeny Christian Child Care

Ankeny Christian Child Care does not follow a specific church doctrine. Instead, we introduce children to Jesus in natural, age‑appropriate ways throughout the day. We pray with and for our children, read Christian stories, sing worship songs, and model Christ‑like behavior in our classrooms. Through this everyday integration, we strive to be an extension of the Christ‑centered homes many of our families come from. We also honor and respect each family’s individual beliefs and spiritual journey.

Opportunities to Grow in Faith

Children at ACCCP have many opportunities to connect with God in meaningful ways, whether through singing Bible camp songs, participating in service and community projects, or engaging in simple moments of prayer and reflection.

We are also regularly visited by pastors, Christian missionaries, and church volunteers who sing with the children, pray with them, and share stories of faith. These experiences help nurture a sense of wonder, gratitude, and connection to God’s love.
